Artist's Comments

Airbrushed.
Done in June, before the Jack Sparrow...First to get back into the swing of colour portraits, it had definately been a LONG time!
Few colours changed, just cos I couldnt be bothered mixing the right ones for a quickie at the time.
And once again, not a great photo of it as it was taken with my phone.
Enjoy.

God, THIS is good!

I am a pencil artist, but I have an airbrush and have done some minor tries myself. Recently I found a shop that sells serious masking film and airbrush colours, so I am experimenting and trying to get into airbrush art more and more, but gasp, looking at this I'd say you're quite a master!

Passing over the very good resemblance, your skill with the colour tones and with the overall technique looks excellent to me!

May I ask you some questions? Well, I'll ask them anyway, if you want to answer, I'll be really glad :)

1) What airbrush did you use?
2) What are the actual dimensions of the original work?
3) Did you use many masks or are you more a free hander?
4) In case you used masks, what kind of masks did you use for this piece? More paper "flying" masks or adhesive film masks?
5) How many souls have I to offer to the devil to become as good as you? And how much blood to sign the contract? =P

My compliments again, now I'll browse your full gallery :)

Thank you very much for that glowing comment!
Answers to your questions...

1. I use a Badger 155...I dont actually own one, but my teacher/boss is nice enough to let me use one of their's while I save for one.
2. The artwork is A1 I believe...or A2...i can never remember! either way, its pretty big. lol
3/4. I prefer to airbrush free hand, but I do use loose stencils for eyes as I like to put alot of detail in them, they are usually just a business card with a curve cut in them, or if i really feel like cleaning, a french curve.
Adhesive Masking is more used for automotive or large scale stuff.
5. Pretty sure you wont have to sell your soul, or anyone else's!
...But I have been airbrushing..continually learning more as i go and as my teacher comes up with new theories to discuss/test with me...for about 6, almost 7 years. I'm only 20..almost 21, so you can do the math!

All in all, I love my airbrush and definately recommend it to anyone that wants to further their skills..and if you go into courses, you're sure to meet some awesome people there! I met my best mate at a course..
If you ever have any other questions, feel free to ask! I'm more than happy to answer!

Wow, thank you for all the advice! I'll have to rent a new room, if I want to use A1, I think I'll stick with A4 or A3 ihihih, but your experience motivated me a lot, and be sure I'll be practicing from now (now that I have a good airbrush, and not a piece of junk like the one I used before, that worked well, but worked for like 3 months, with all the care I could use to it).

OK, now back to experimenting! :sprint:
